General Statement of Duties:

Operate and perform operation maintenance on four types of heavy equipment. Trains in the operation of other types of equipment. Expected to supervise in the absence of Assistant Foreman.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Equipment and Construction Foreman

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

1. Grease, fuel, and maintain equipment
2. Load and transport materials
3. Operate different types of equipment with various attachments and controls
4. Clears trees and brush from laterals and drain ditches
5. Repair earth slides in levee embankments
6. Repair leaking levees and large water lines and also install irrigation turnouts
7. Place concrete
8. Build and maintain roads
9. In wet conditions, equipment operators perform maintenance work under their foreman until conditions improve

QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

1. Ability to follow oral and written instructions concerning maintenance and operation of equipment. Some ability to read blueprints and drawings
2. Ability to operate four types of heavy equipment
3. Possess a commercial operator’s license
4. Working knowledge of earthwork procedures
5. Must show initiative and job performance to advance to next job classification

EDUCATION: High School diploma or G.E.D.

EXPERIENCE: Four years’ experience in field of heavy construction equipment. One year’s experience in earthwork.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires physical exertion such as lifting, pushing, and carrying objects up to 100 pounds in weight. Must be physically fit and capable of working in inclement weather.
